OWNERSHIP

WE SHARE OUR HOPES.
WE SHARE OUR CHALLENGES.

Because of its roots in the extended family, cooperation has always been central to the Palestinian economy. That's why our ownership structure shares profits and control equitably among members, but it also shares the burden of responsibility and work. The only way we can prosper is by working together.

Individual farmers own their own land, and work collectively in cooperatives to improve their product, enhance their yield, and gain organic and fair trade certification.  These village based collectives are joined in the PFTA and they collectively contract with Canaan Fair Trade to market their products.  Canaan is a privately held, mission based company that sources products from and provides services to fair trade cooperatives in Palestine.

WE FINISH ALL OUR OWN PRODUCTS

For us, "ownership" is about much more than just financial control. Canaan is rare among Fair Trade cooperatives in that we do more than simply export raw goods for finishing and marketing by other companies. We also manage all our processing, packaging and branding. We provide
finished, ready-to-sell “Product of Palestine” premium food items. This of course means more economic opportunities for the people of Palestine, but it also allows us to protect the authenticity, integrity and quality of everything that we do.
